So, sew?!

So what's up with the "sew" in Sewchique?!  I feel lame for claiming the name and not following through, a bit misleading right?  I promise it's only temporary.

My belongings are slowly floating across the ocean right now, as I recently moved across the world.  So stranded I am, without a sewing machine and Number Four my mannequin.  I wonder how she is doing...the last I saw she was looking a bit kinky.

But here's a little update on one of the many favorite pieces I've made on the Sewchique.  I wore it to Miami Swim fashion week, with a beloved Mara Hoffman bikini top.  You can see the work in progress herehere, and here.

"Walk like an egyptian"

So I never finished what I started.

Without the right camera it was difficult (for my bf :) to get good shots of the actual show, but here's a mish mash of the Mara Hoffman show.  One of my *favorite* swimwear designers of all time!  Have you seen her prints?!  And the colors!!  In one word: thrilling.

And here's H collecting the bangles. And if you want to see the entire show (though the music has been dubbed):

Here we are

Fashion week.  Miami style!  Where it's okay to walk on the streets in your bikini.  Doesn't get much better than this ;)

Just a few pre-show and backstage shots, to wet your appetite.

Lunch break looked a little like this.

Seeing red

It's been never forever since I've liked red.  Actually, in first grade I liked red because I liked red gummi bears the most.

Essie was giving complimentary manicures for fashion week.  The ladies there were so nice and friendly!  Given the intense surroundings, they managed to provide an air of calm amongst the storm.  (See bloggers' pit below.)

All 3 are AMAZING (the fourth was essentially a nude called Sugar Daddy), but when I saw the "A-list" red I knew it was to be love at first sight.  The others were striking too - Sand Tropez (must find!) is a creamy beige with just a hint of grey and Luxedo a deep purplish black.

Interesting fact from chatting to the Essie ladies: A-list is the most popular red worn on the red carpet!

Which brings me to the look of the week!  It's a color beginning with the letter R!

Above, Tibi finale.

@ Milk

Here I am at Milk, with the kimono.  I wore it with a classic All Saints jersey long sleeve maxi dress.  We managed just a few photos, next time we'll manage more!

Fetherston and Suno a no-go

Words cannot express how disappointed L and I were.  I say this more out of grief than exasperation.  I'm sure it was not Erin Fetherston or Suno at fault, but they were both too good to be missed.  Plus, some of my favorite bloggers were sure to be there!  Kelly Framel, Rumi Neely, Jessica Quirk, Susie Bubble...  I'll let Racked explain further in "The five worst moments from Saturday's mob scene at milk."

Moving on.

Thank goodness for the world wide web!  Can you tell I love drapey pieces?  Here are some of my fave looks from Erin Fetherston:

And Suno:

I have a hard time wearing prints.  I like prints.  But I think I'm just particular about them.  Sometimes they're too expected.  Mixing prints is a genius solution!  I'm liking Suno's granny wallpaper prints and maxi-sizing.

Happy vday if you're into that kinda thing

I love my friends (and fam!) I don't know what I'd do without them.

S and I wandered our way into this space last night.  We were at Milk Studios, which is a cool downtown location for non-Lincoln Center shows.  I still don't know was the purpose of the space, but I kinda like their take on vday.

P.S. Check out the very sweet Racked article on Costello and Tagliapietra - 17 years and going.

Chalkboard green

It's that time of the year again, the hubbub of New York is chanting "fashion week".

If you've ever had the honor of attending a show in the once upon a time Bryant Park or the new location Lincoln Center, you'll know how magical it is.  You forget where you are.  The music plays inside your head.  The white tent walls seem infinite.

You can also work for someone who shows during fashion week, which is the latter for me.  It's equally magical backstage but in an awesomely different way.

Yesterday I was blessed with Costello Tagliapietra Fall 2011 and the Alejandro Ingelmo Fall/Winter 2011 Presentation.  I'm loving the greens, a sea-foamy hue that they've called chalkboard green.  Here are some of my faves from the former:

Above, gift bag.  Each year Costello Tagliapietra bags their gifts in the same satchel but a different fabric.  Meanwhile, you also get to see the fabric on the runway in dress form (see upper right runway shot).  And the fabric is always eco-friendly yet oh so chique!
