Vintage finds

So we found these vintage.

And my bf treated me, which was very nice of him.

The shorts - you know it's vintage when it says "Size 10" and it's teeny tiny and it's 100% poly.  Still, I love them, it was thrilling.

The bag, he thought it looks like a sunglasses case.  Men have a way of simplifying fashion...and it's so honest.  *crucial if you're designing and you want to make sure you haven't gone off the deep end.

P.S. I think the shorts were modified from the original to give it the scalloped edge - there's no reason why you can't go and do this yourself!

Day and night

Here are some day time photos, plus a few shots made possible with an extra set of hands.

The shot immediately above shows the skirt hem, with the corners tucked in/inverted.  The night time flash photos from the previous post shows the corners out.  I think I'd wear them in however.

And IF I happened to stand over a gust of wind...Or if I were a marionette doll...And I could make 2D into 3D...this is what it would look like:

I like this last shot because it reminds me that I obtained my goals for this look:
...to create movement
...to be asymmetrical
...to not look like a handkerchief skirt

Yay.

Presenting look #2

I look forward to wearing this one.

[Above, 3/4 view, front, back, back hemline detail]

Don't look too closely, there are still threads hanging and ironing needed but that's what I get for finishing it at night and having to use flash.  Nobody looks good in flash, including Number 4 (have I introduced my mannequin?).  Sorry Number 4 - and when your front looks like your back, it's not good news.

More on this later!  Bed time.

Back to life

Look what I found patiently waiting for me when I came home!

I also found in the mail a couple items I'd ordered online before I left!  Santa made a visit :)

Coastal Contacts has been promoting free glasses through their facebook page...naturally I was suspicious.  I had only stumbled upon the promotion.  Never heard of the place.  Plus, nothing in life is free right?  I chose the frame online, entered my prescription and a few other measurements that they teach you through short videos.  I even called my optician friend L to get her blessing (thanks L for cautioning me!).  Of course you pay for shipping, (30 day full refund), and you can add extras - I chose to add a "coatings value bundle" anti-glare, scratch resistant and something else I forget.  And voila!  $20 and 3 days later.  What do you think?

"You're not a doctor"

I know today is my due day but it'll have to wait a few days.  I had a snowy trip planned and tried to finish the crimson garment before the weekend but just couldn't find something I was satisfied with.

Pictured above is a seam I've decided to leave exposed.  This was supposed to remain hidden on the inside but when I flipped it over, what a nice surprise!

One of my professors always reminded us that we are not doctors; making clothes is not like surgery.  If you make a mistake it's not like someone's life depended on it.  And sometimes that's really the hardest part - making the first cut.

Lanvin love

I'm not really a brand whore but the Lanvin's Spring 2011 line has been an obsession.  You may be seeing more inspiration from there!  But for this week's look I can't help but think of:

Seeing red

It's been never forever since I've liked red.  Actually, in first grade I liked red because I liked red gummi bears the most.

Essie was giving complimentary manicures for fashion week.  The ladies there were so nice and friendly!  Given the intense surroundings, they managed to provide an air of calm amongst the storm.  (See bloggers' pit below.)

All 3 are AMAZING (the fourth was essentially a nude called Sugar Daddy), but when I saw the "A-list" red I knew it was to be love at first sight.  The others were striking too - Sand Tropez (must find!) is a creamy beige with just a hint of grey and Luxedo a deep purplish black.

Interesting fact from chatting to the Essie ladies: A-list is the most popular red worn on the red carpet!

Which brings me to the look of the week!  It's a color beginning with the letter R!

Above, Tibi finale.
