Pink + neon + hightops

I'm finding myself undeniably obsessed with hightops.  I want to wear these all the time but I worry I look like a child (add on Asian genes and voila you're a decade younger :).

Unrelated to the hightops, I got carded at a casino yesterday.  The age limit is 18.  I'm more than a decade older than that.

So, sew?!

So what's up with the "sew" in Sewchique?!  I feel lame for claiming the name and not following through, a bit misleading right?  I promise it's only temporary.

My belongings are slowly floating across the ocean right now, as I recently moved across the world.  So stranded I am, without a sewing machine and Number Four my mannequin.  I wonder how she is doing...the last I saw she was looking a bit kinky.

But here's a little update on one of the many favorite pieces I've made on the Sewchique.  I wore it to Miami Swim fashion week, with a beloved Mara Hoffman bikini top.  You can see the work in progress herehere, and here.

Kids stuff

I made a little trip to Ohio to visit my middle school buddy.  It was great.  I couldn't help but think of Weeds, with all the little boxes on the hillside.  (Now who's got the song stuck in their head - me.) Having been mostly a city-dweller I went camera crazy and couldn't stop taking pics of greenery and sky and suburbia.  Loving it.  More pics to come.

But first, we went vintage shopping and outlet shopping.  Is it bad that I lusted over this child's backpack?  It kept telling me to Just Do It.  F treated me, and I let it slide being that we are childhood friends anyway.

Outlet shopping yeah!  (B was a good friend and hubby - not sure if he was celebrating a successful day or overjoyed that we were finally leaving :)

Glow worms

I like silk.  How it drapes, how it feels.  It's difficult to work with it but it's mostly worth it!

Unfortunately silk is not always so planet-friendly, but what if the worm itself produced colored silk???  Still in the early stages but it's a brilliant concept.

Here are better shots of last week's look:

Above, back right of garment.  I sewed the pink silk on the "wrong" side of the fabric.  The correct side was a little too bright and pink for me, but I love the details of the jacquard-like petals, which I still showed along the hem and seam binding.  The orange silk is gauze-like and sheer.

Something bright

I'd set out to make "something bright".  That's what I told myself.  I really had no clue where it was going to go.  I kinda knew I didn't have enough fabric to cut symmetrical pieces, but I also knew that I'd (just have to) figure it out.

I don't know if it's the bright colors, or quick moving clouds today, but my camera really didn't want to take any decent photos!  Without flash, the camera saw: pink + orange = blurry.  (It's definitely how I felt after straining to see pink thread on orange.)

Anyway, here are some thumbnails:

I'm going to try to photograph it again tomorrow!

I had to make a decision on the straps...the sewing turned to be a bit shady :)  I tried my best, I even did it twice, but the fabrics frayed and warped so much it was nearly impossible!  I most prefer it sans embellishment.  I love the knotting I did but it was a bit distracting (and frou frou for me).  So I stayed with the raw-edged wrapping.  Then tacked it down with some handy invisible thread.

Which version would you have picked?
